Caddo is seeing incredible gains in middle school math performance, and getting so national attention for it! Caddo was recently selected by Chiefs for Change to highlight the district’s efforts over the past 3 years to improve middle school math proficiency. Increasing time while providing extensive support to district classrooms, Caddo has seen a 9-percent increase in student achievement. Caddo Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree was invited to speak on Capitol Hill with members of Congress and their staffs about how these gains became a reality.
Chiefs for Change is a nationally recognized bipartisan organization that advocates for K-12 education with policy makers to make sure students and teachers have what they need for success.

We recognized Caddo Middle Magnet for earning the distinction of being a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School and our 15 National Merit Semifinalists. Students in the Biotechnology Magnet Academy (BTA) at Southwood High School are spending this semester conducting research at LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS). Through the BioStart Internship Program, seniors conduct research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor at LSUHS. The BTA at Southwood is a four-year, rigorous curriculum with a focus on math, science and technology courses.
BRF’s education initiatives at Southwood include the BTA, BioStart, the College Navigator and the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) robotics program.
