🥧✨ Happy Pi Day! ✨🥧 March 14th (3/14) is Pi Day, a celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi)—approximately 3.14159—which represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter!
Fun Facts About Pi:
🔹 Pi is infinite—it never ends and never repeats!
🔹 The record for memorizing Pi is over 70,000 digits! 🤯
🔹 NASA uses Pi to calculate spacecraft trajectories. 🚀
Whether you’re solving math problems or just enjoying a delicious slice of pie, today is the perfect day to celebrate the power of numbers! How many digits of Pi can you recite?

Walnut Hill Elementary/Middle School will be closed today due to a power outage. Panola-Harrison Electric is working on restoration efforts and families will be notified when power is restored.

💜💛💚 Happy Fat Tuesday! 💜💛💚🎭
Today is Fat Tuesday, the grand finale of Carnival season, and the day before Ash Wednesday! The name "Mardi Gras" — French for Fat Tuesday — comes from the tradition of indulging in festive feasts before a season of reflection.
In Louisiana, Mardi Gras isn’t just a day—it’s a celebration of culture, tradition, and community! From parades to king cakes and beads flying through the air, today is a time to embrace the spirit of joy and togetherness. Enjoy the fun, stay safe, and let the good times roll! Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Today is World Teen Mental Wellness Day, and at Caddo Parish Public Schools, we recognize the importance of supporting the mental well-being of our students. World Teen Mental Wellness Day serves as a reminder that taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body.
Ways to Prioritize Mental Wellness:
✅ Get plenty of sleep & stay active
✅ Take breaks from screens & social media
✅ Talk to someone you trust if you're feeling overwhelmed
✅ Be kind to yourself—your feelings matter

They're going to nationals! Caddo Parish Magnet High's JROTC has qualified for the National Academic Leadership Bowl in Washington, DC. Big news, Caddo family!
We are beyond proud to celebrate Mary Mack Thornton for being named a finalist in the elementary division of Louisiana Student of the Year!
This incredible honor means Mary Mack has already won at the school, district, zone, and regional levels — and now, she’s competing for the state title!
Selected from top students across Louisiana, Mary Mack has impressed at every level with her academic excellence, leadership, character, and service to her school and community. Her achievements, writing, and interview skills have set her apart, and we know she will shine in the final stage of competition.
Let’s cheer her on as she represents Caddo Parish on the state stage! #CaddoProud #StudentOfTheYear #GoMaryMack

🚀✨ Happy 95th Anniversary, Pluto! ✨🔭
On this day in 1930, astronomer Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona. Once the ninth planet in our solar system, Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006—though many still believe it deserves its full planetary status!
Did you know?
🪐 Pluto has five known moons, including Charon.
❄️ Its surface is covered in frozen nitrogen, with mountains made of water ice as hard as rock.
🚀 It takes 248 Earth years for Pluto to orbit the Sun—meaning it hasn’t even completed one full orbit since its discovery!

“The thing about Black history is that the truth is so much more complex than anything you could make up.” – Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Black history is a story of resilience, achievement, and the unbreakable spirit of those who have shaped our world. Throughout February, Caddo Parish Public Schools will honor the rich contributions of Black leaders, educators, innovators, and changemakers—past and present—who inspire our students to dream big and achieve more.

Meet Lily Drach, Caddo's Student Leader of the Month for January. Lily is a senior at Northwood High School where she serves as the president of the student council and participates in FAME, 4H, National Honor Society, and tennis. After graduating in May, she plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in political science with a minor in communications. We are excited to see all Lily will accomplish.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all schools and district offices will be closed on Monday, January 20. This national holiday honors Dr. King's extraordinary legacy as a civil rights leader and champion of justice. We encourage our families to reflect on his timeless message of fairness, service, and unity.

Caddo Parish schools and sites will be open on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Based on the latest forecast information from the National Weather Service, road conditions are not anticipated to be a concern. However, we want to remind our families to take precautions as temperatures are expected to be unusually low throughout the day.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure children are dressed warmly and appropriately for the cold weather, particularly as they wait for buses or walk to school. Students are advised to wear hats, scarves, and gloves or mittens to retain body heat, but must also be mindful of school dress codes once entering campus.
We encourage families to take a moment to prepare for the day, ensuring children are bundled up before heading out into the cold. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority, and we look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday.

January is National School Board Recognition Month, and we’re proud to celebrate the 12 dedicated members of the Caddo Parish School Board! These incredible leaders work to create policies that advocate for our schools and community. Join us in thanking our Board members for their hard work and service!

The Regeneron Science Talent Search is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. For her recognition, Rishi and her school, Caddo Parish Magnet High School, will each receive $2,000. Congratulations, Rishi!
